Michael Smith seeks probation in $8m AI streaming fraud case

Michael Smith, 54, asked for probation with no prison time in a 22 September sentencing memo, Billboard reported. He pleaded guilty in March to wire fraud conspiracy over AI-song streaming fraud. Prosecutors, who call it the first criminal streaming-fraud conviction, recommended two years for the scheme valued at about $8 million in royalties.
