Reno-Area Wildfire: 42,000 Evacuated, Blaze Still Uncontained

The Hawk fire, human-caused and burning northwest of Reno since August 22, has forced 42,000 residents to evacuate with 45,000 more on standby — nearly a quarter of Washoe County's population. At 0% containment (meaning no control lines yet), the fire has reached 13,000 acres. Governor Lombardo declared a state of emergency. Six people are injured.
