Reno-Area Wildfire Forces 42,000 to Evacuate, 0% Contained After Two Days

The Hawk fire, burning northwest of Reno, Nevada since August 22, has forced 42,000 residents to evacuate with another 45,000 told to prepare to leave — nearly a quarter of Washoe County's population. The human-caused blaze remained at 0% containment as of August 24, having grown to over 13,000 acres. Governor Lombardo declared a state of emergency. Six people have been injured.
