Seven Dead in A66 Wrong-Way Crash Including Two Cleveland Officers

Two Cleveland police officers and five civilians died when a Volkswagen Passat travelling the wrong way along the A66 in Teesside collided head-on with their armed response vehicle at 3:39am on 22 August 2026. All seven died at the scene. The IOPC — the police watchdog — has opened an investigation.
