Senators Demand TikTok Identify Staff Behind Safeguard Experiment

Senators Blackburn (R-TN) and Blumenthal (D-CT) sent TikTok a letter demanding the names of every employee who knew about an experiment that disabled an algorithmic safeguard for roughly 15 million U.S. users. The safeguard limited exposure to harmful content; TikTok tested whether it reduced engagement. The senators called the experiment "depraved" and set a September 1 deadline.
