Wildfire in France Forces 20,000 People to Flee Their Homes
On July 24, 2026, France sent emergency phone alerts as a wildfire burning since July 22 neared Lège-Cap-Ferret, a coastal area. About 20,000 people left nearby towns and beach resorts. Hundreds escaped by boat because roads were too jammed. Two firefighters have died in France's July wildfires. France has asked the European Union for firefighting help.
