Federal Council to Vote on Dropping Tribal Input and Public Comment From Historic Preservation Process

A federal council that protects historic sites plans to vote in mid-July 2026 on rule changes, NPR reported. The proposal would no longer require input from Native American tribes or guarantee public comment on new projects, and would shrink what counts as a historic place. Vice Chair Travis Voyles asked members to vote.
