New Bill Would Let Government Turn Off Dangerous AI

Two lawmakers from opposite parties proposed a bill on July 23, 2026, letting the government shut down AI systems that cause emergencies — such as 10+ deaths, $100M+ in damage, or an AI trying to hide the controls that would turn it off.
