U.S. borrowing cost hits 5.1%, highest since 2007
U.S. 10-year government borrowing cost rose 13.89 basis points — each a hundredth of a percentage point — to 5.106% on Sept. 23, Reuters reported. That is the highest since 2007 and the sharpest one-day climb since April 2025. Think of yield as interest paid to lenders. When it rises, home loans usually get pricier and stocks face tougher competition.
