NASA Batteries Keep Working in Extreme Cold
NASA's experimental SPEARS batteries, solid versions with no liquid inside, kept working down to minus 80 degrees Celsius in Langley tests that copy the airless cold of space. They slowed a little below minus 60. The same batteries were unharmed after sitting through heat of 100 degrees down to minus 170, cold where they can wait but cannot run.
