New York Mayor Orders Check on Police Use of Force

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani ordered a detailed check of city police force use on Oct. 12, 2026, the first in 10 years. City Hall says new accountability rules and $2.6 million for the Inspector General, an outside watchdog office, come with it. A spokesperson says it is not linked to a separate shooting by immigration agents police handled.
