Mamdani Orders First NYPD Force Review in 10 Years

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani ordered a full review of city police force use on Oct. 12, 2026, the first such check in 10 years. City Hall says accountability changes and $2.6 million for the Inspector General, the independent watchdog, will move forward too. A spokesperson says it is unrelated to police handling of a separate federal immigration (ICE) shooting.
