
Judge says federal officials can't demand state voter lists
A federal judge stopped the Justice Department from forcing states to hand over their voter lists to compare with a federal immigration-check system. On Oct. 9, 2026, Judge Sparkle Sooknanan sided with Common Cause in a 78-page ruling, saying Congress left voter rules to states. The department said it was reviewing the ruling.
