Judge rules Justice Department's use of state voter rolls unlawful

U.S. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan ruled Oct. 9, 2026, that the Justice Department unlawfully demanded state voter rolls to cross-check against the federal SAVE immigration database. Siding with Common Cause in a 78-page decision, she said Congress left voter eligibility to states. The department said it was reviewing the ruling.
