Judge blocks Justice Department from demanding state voter rolls

A federal judge blocked the Justice Department from demanding state voter rolls to check against SAVE, the federal immigration-status database. On Oct. 9, 2026, Judge Sparkle Sooknanan ruled in a 78-page decision for Common Cause that Congress gave states control over voter eligibility. The department said it was reviewing the ruling.
