First Hurricane of 2026 Shows Up Very Late

Isaias became the Atlantic's first hurricane of 2026 on Oct. 9, the latest first arrival since Oct. 8, 1905. The Guardian reported 80mph winds and pressure of 975mb, a low reading that signals strength, about 385 miles south-southwest of where the Mississippi River meets the sea, heading east-northeast. The late start leaves less time to prepare for later storms.
