Isaias Is 2026's First Atlantic Hurricane, Latest Since 1905

Isaias became the Atlantic's first hurricane of 2026 on Oct. 9, the latest such first since Oct. 8, 1905. The Guardian reported winds of 80mph and pressure of 975mb — lower pressure means a stronger storm — positioned 385 miles south-southwest of the Mississippi River mouth and moving east-northeast. The late arrival narrows preparation time before late-season storms.
