
Labour plans new rules for renters and landlords
Labour is expected to set out its plan to change the Residential Tenancies Act, the renting law, in October 2026, Chris Matthews of Tenancy.co.nz said. A Labour spokesperson said the party opposed landlords being able to end a tenancy without giving a reason, and would change it, with more housing detail to come. That power returned in early 2025.
