More than 800,000 people in England were waiting for checks for ADHD, an attention condition, or autism, a developmental condition, at end-2025, Prof Peter Fonagy's government-ordered review found. ADHD checks hit 560,000, 17 times the 2019 number; 254,000 waited for autism checks. Nine in ten waited at least three months.
