Protests against foreigners turn violent in Soweto and Durban
Protests against foreigners turned violent Oct. 8 in Soweto, Johannesburg, and Durban. Acting police chief Puleng Dimpane said 10 vehicles were burned in Johannesburg and 14 in Durban. Shops run by foreigners were robbed and forced shut. In Durban, police fired rubber bullets, painful but rarely deadly, arresting three. Protesters want refugee centres, for safety requests, to stop taking them.
