Anti-migrant protests turned violent Oct. 8 in Soweto, Johannesburg, and Durban. Acting police commissioner Puleng Dimpane said 10 vehicles were torched in Johannesburg and 14 in Durban. Foreign-run shops were looted and forced shut. Police fired rubber bullets in Durban, arresting three. Protesters demanded refugee centres stop processing asylum applications.
