Nearly 183,000 Giant Tortoises Found on Aldabra Islands

Aldabra Atoll, a ring of islands in Seychelles, holds almost 183,000 grown and almost-grown giant tortoises, the most ever recorded. Researchers from the Seychelles Islands Foundation and University of Exeter studied counts from 2018 to 2022, published in Ecology and Evolution. It updates the late-1990s estimate of 100,000, showing steady numbers.
