UK and Israel Reach Deal to Keep British Office in Jerusalem

Britain can keep its diplomats in East Jerusalem after a last-minute agreement with Israel beat the 30-day shutdown deadline on 8 October 2026. Its nearly 200-year-old office, the Consulate General, gets a new name — 'UK Mission, Jerusalem' — and fewer staff. Israel wanted it closed after Britain punished Israeli settlements with sanctions, or economic penalties.
