UK and Israel agree to keep British diplomats in East Jerusalem under new name

Britain and Israel reached a last-minute agreement keeping British diplomats in East Jerusalem as Israel's 30-day shutdown order expired on 8 October 2026. The nearly 200-year-old Consulate General becomes the 'UK Mission, Jerusalem' and will operate at smaller scale. Israel had ordered closure after Britain announced sanctions targeting Israeli settlements.
