Weak Gulf Storm May Become Hurricane, Hit U.S. Coast

Weak storm Tropical Depression Nine formed Oct. 6 in the southwestern Gulf, about 630 miles southwest of Mississippi River mouth with 35-mph winds. National Hurricane Center expects a stronger tropical storm by Wednesday and possible major hurricane Thursday. AccuWeather forecasts possible coming ashore early Saturday from southeastern Louisiana to Florida Panhandle, with 3-6 inches rain, up to 10 in spots.
