Tropical Depression Nine Forecast to Become Season's First Hurricane, Threaten Gulf Coast

Tropical Depression Nine formed Oct. 6 in the southwestern Gulf, about 630 miles southwest of the Mississippi River mouth with 35-mph winds. The National Hurricane Center expects a tropical storm by Wednesday and possible hurricane Thursday. AccuWeather forecasts possible early-Saturday landfall from southeastern Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle, with 3-6 inches of rain, up to 10 in spots.
