Older Amazon Echo Speakers Lose Voice Control for Plugged-In Music

Amazon has turned off Alexa voice control for wired music on older Echo smart speakers, effective October 6, 2026. If you use the 3.5mm jack, the small round plug for a phone or stereo, play and pause voice commands may stop working. An unnamed spokesperson confirmed the change. Amazon gave no on-the-record statement and no explanation.
