FBI Teams That Catch Spies Are Short-Staffed, Report Says

Many FBI teams that catch foreign spies are at 50% to 60% staffing in many of its 56 offices around the country, NPR reported Oct. 6, 2026, citing five sources. The report said agents moved to violent crime and immigration work. The FBI said that is false, citing a strong operation and more than 1,500 helpers from other agencies.
