Why Europe's money is worth less right now

The euro fell below $1.12 to $1.1161 on Oct. 5, 2026, down over 0.8%. That means one euro buys fewer U.S. dollars than at any time since May 2025. Worries about France's large government debt are pushing it down. It is now about eight cents below January's high of $1.20, after falling about 1.2% in October.
