
Why an ordinary phone box in Narooma is now protected history
A Telstra public phone outside Narooma Plaza on the Princes Highway on the NSW south coast is Australia's first heritage-listed payphone — given historic protection for social and historic reasons. It was a community lifeline during the Black Summer bushfires, connecting residents to the outside world.
