Government lawyers agree voting cutoff breaks rights law, say court ruling not needed

The Government's lawyers agree the Electoral Amendment Act rule stopping enrolment 13 days before an election breaches the Bill of Rights Act. But they told the Wellington High Court a formal court statement saying so is not needed. Lawyer Peter Gunn called Christopher Carroll's request for one "unconvincing", saying a future government would already know.
