Co-Pilot Allegedly Attacks Captain, Forcing Plane to Land

On 30 September, co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami — named by Reuters, CNN and The New York Times — allegedly attacked Captain Smit Machchhar with the plane's emergency axe on Flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The plane with 170+ mostly Israeli passengers dropped 17,000 feet before passengers stopped him; two backup pilots landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
