Hawaii's 90-Foot Hōlei Rock Arch Falls Into the Ocean
The 90-foot Hōlei sea arch, a rock bridge, fell into the Pacific Ocean, the U.S. National Park Service said Oct. 2, 2026. It stood on the Big Island's south coast in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, built about 550 years ago from ancient, hardened lava. Like sandcastles worn by waves, such arches don't last, and the ocean eventually knocks them down.
