90-Foot Hōlei Sea Arch Collapses in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
The U.S. National Park Service confirmed Oct. 2, 2026 that the 90-foot Hōlei sea arch collapsed into the Pacific Ocean. Located on the Big Island's southern coast in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the arch formed about 550 years ago in ancient lava flows. Sea arches are temporary landforms, and coastal erosion eventually brings them down.
