Switzerland's giant ice rivers are melting fast
Switzerland has lost nearly 20% of its glacier ice in five years through 2026. Data out Oct. 1 found 2026 alone melted 5.5%, the second-worst year ever measured. Hot spells and little winter snow are the cause. Snow that normally acts like sunscreen melted early, leaving bare ice baking in summer heat.
