British Sikh campaigner free after nine years in jail without trial

Jagtar Singh Johal, a British Sikh campaigner, left a Delhi jail on 1 October 2026 after nine years held since 4 November 2017 without a trial to decide guilt. A Punjab court cleared him in a similar case, but he faces eight terrorism charges in India's national courts. The case hurt UK-India relations, and those trials are still to come.
