British Sikh activist released after nine years without full trial
British Sikh activist Jagtar Singh Johal left a Delhi prison on 1 October 2026 after nine years held since 4 November 2017 without a full trial. He faces eight terrorism charges in federal court after a Punjab court cleared him of largely similar charges. His detention caused diplomatic tension between the UK and India, and the remaining prosecutions bear watching.
