Switzerland Is Losing Its Glacier Ice Fast

Switzerland’s glaciers lost 5.5% of their ice in the first eight months of 2026, almost matching the record loss in 2022, the yearly review found. That is 2.5 to 4 metres of thickness lost everywhere, like a blanket removed. Led by ice expert Matthias Huss of ETH Zürich, it warns repeated losses could reset normal plans for water and hazards.
