
No one has been taken to court for not signing up to vote
The Electoral Commission knows of no one taken to court for not registering to vote, Chief Electoral Officer Karl Le Quesne says. Registering has been required since 1924 on the general roll and since 1956 on the Māori roll. Police would have to take a person to the local District Court, University of Otago law professor Andrew Geddis says.
