UK Tells Universities to Stop Working With Chinese Group Accused of Spying

On September 30, 2026, Britain's anti-spy agency MI5 told UK researchers to stop all work with the China General Technology Research Institute. MI5 says the institute is very closely tied to China's Ministry of State Security, the spy agency, and pays for research to help spying. Security Minister Dan Jarvis wrote to university leaders to enforce the split.
