MI5 Tells UK Academics to Cut Ties With Chinese Institute Over Spying Allegation

On September 30, 2026, Britain's MI5 warned UK academics to end all work with the China General Technology Research Institute, which it alleges has very strong ties to China's Ministry of State Security. MI5 says the institute funds research to aid Chinese espionage. Security Minister Dan Jarvis wrote to university leaders to enforce the break.
