Prosecutor Reopens Cornell Fraternity Assault Case

The prosecutor in Tompkins County, Matthew Van Houten, has reopened the criminal investigation into the alleged October 2024 gang-rape of a 20-year-old Cornell student at the Chi Phi house. With her help, he will ask a grand jury — ordinary citizens who decide if charges go forward — after her September 2026 lawsuit against Cornell and the accused men.
