Tompkins County reopens Cornell Chi Phi rape case for grand jury

Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten reopened the criminal inquiry into the alleged October 2024 gang-rape of a 20-year-old Cornell student at the Chi Phi house. He intends to present the case to a grand jury with the complainant's cooperation, after a civil lawsuit filed in September 2026 against Cornell and the alleged attackers.
