16,000 App Storage Systems Left Unlocked, Exposing Personal Details

About 16,000 storage systems holding names, addresses, phone numbers and passwords were left unlocked on the internet, like open filing cabinets, UpGuard researchers reported Sept. 25, 2026. They run on Supabase, a service for storing app information valued at $10 billion earlier in 2026 and used for apps built with AI. Most cases appear U.S.-based, though UpGuard called it worldwide.
