One in Three People in Argentina Is Poor

Nearly one in three Argentines was poor in early 2026. The rate was 32.3%, up from 28.2% in late 2025, INDEC, the statistics office, said Sept. 24. Average pay per person rose 11.5%, but the cost of basics like food rose almost 20%. Severe poverty hit 7.5%, reversing a fall from nearly 53% in early 2024 under President Javier Milei.
