16-year-old locked up almost all day in adult prison

Victoria's watchdog found a 16-year-old spent over 22 hours daily in his cell for six weeks. After a staff attack in early 2025, he moved from Parkville youth centre to Melbourne Assessment Prison, an adult maximum-security jail. The watchdog said it was near-total isolation, with no in-person family visits.
