Officer hurt, suspect dead in shooting outside Ontario synagogue

Police say Sean Ward, 29, shot officer Jeff Smith, standing guard outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue, a Jewish place of worship in Belleville, Ont., during Yom Kippur, a holy day service. Smith is in hospital. Ward is dead after also shooting at a second officer. Ontario's police watchdog is investigating.
