
Fed Stops Lowering Interest Rates—For Now
The Federal Reserve froze borrowing costs on June 17, 2026. Since 2023, it has lowered rates by one-and-a-half percentage points, but recently slowed down: only three-quarter of a point in the past year. Officials want to see inflation stay down before cutting more. Some market watchers had expected one or two additional cuts before the year ends.
