Elections Analyst: Democrats Start With Slight House Advantage for 2026

The Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan elections analyst, said Aug. 25 that Democrats hold a narrow edge for the 2026 House races. Of the roughly 48 competitive districts, more lean Republican (27) than Democratic (21). But the pool is small enough that a late shift could change the outlook. The ratings also count 184 safely Democratic seats and 182 safely Republican.
