Interest rates stay put, pushing relief off until next year

The Reserve Bank kept interest rates frozen at 4.35 per cent on 16 June. Bank economists now reckon cuts won't arrive until mid-2027. The government budgeted based on rates falling sooner. The longer freeze delays when mortgages and bills get cheaper — a problem for Labor's election hopes next year.
